Wellness Center:

River City Therapy and Wellness Center offers a wide range of healthcare services, all provided with a holistic approach. Our healthcare providers are the best in their fields but most importantly, they all understand the meaning of customer service. If we cannot provide what you need, we will try our best to refer you someone who can help.

Our Victorian facility lends itself to comfort and relaxation—we want everyone who enters to feel at home. We encourage you to come in early for your appointment, enjoy a cup of tea, do some reading or just listen to the music in our waiting room.

Stay for an hour or a day! And always let us know if there is anything we can do that would make your experience at River City more enjoyable.

MASSAGE THERAPY:

Each of our licensed massage therapists will blend their techniques to suit your needs using Swedish massage, Deep Tissue work, Neuromuscular therapy, Shiatsu, Acupressure, Craniosacral therapy, Reiki energy work, or Heated stones.

Massage therapy is one of the oldest known healing treatments. Therapists use their hands to release tension from the soft tissue (muscles, fascia and skin), which promotes more efficient blood flow, reduces stress on joints, boosts the immune system, and feels absolutely wonderful!

In these days of nonstop stress and go-go-go, taking the time to rest and relax is not a luxury—it is a necessity for good health.

MEDICAL MASSAGE THERAPY:

Medical massage therapy is provided in conjunction with a prescription from your physician. The therapist will provide a treatment plan with specific goals for injury care. At this time, health insurance companies mostly DO NOT pay for massage therapy; however, personal injury and worker’s compensation routinely provide medical massage therapy for injuries.

ACUPUNCTURE:

We offer traditional acupuncture—healthcare for the body, mind and spirit.

NUTRITION SERVICES:

River City boasts two professionals in this field offering nutrition therapy and counseling for healing and well being as well as coaching for reaching and maintaining a healthy weight.

SPA SERVICES - SALT GLOW:

Exfoliation of the skin surface using sea salt and aroma if you like. Steamed towels are applied to remove the salt. Rich emollient is massaged into the skin. Detoxifying!!

HOT STONE MASSAGE:

Penetrating heat from smooth oiled and warmed stones is used to relieve tense muscles and sore joints. Combined with Swedish and Deep Tissue techniques, this creates a truly unforgettable and thoroughly relaxing massage.

REIKI:

Laying on of hands which aids the body in releasing stress by creating deep relaxation.

MOVEMENT THERAPY:

Yoga, stretching and personal training for stress reduction, building strength and rehabilitation for injury.

Classes are available for 2-5 people. One-on-one sessions are also available.

THAI YOGA MASSAGE:

Thai Yoga Massage is a deeply healing, powerful combination of rhythmic massage, acupressure, gentle stretching, applied Hatha yoga, and Sen Line energy work.

Practiced for thousands of years in Thailand, where it is called Nuad Bo'Rarn, meaning "Ancient Sacred Massage", TYM has its roots in India and the practices of Ayurveda, as well as in China and Traditional Chinese Medicine. In Thailand, these influences combined with Thai medicine and the spiritual practice of Metta, or "loving kindness." Thai Massage was originally practiced by Buddhist monks in the temples of Thailand.

Thai Yoga Massage compliments a yoga or exercise program. It is excellent for athletes, dancers, yoginis, and martial artists, but it is also for people over 30 and up, who are feeling the stiff pinch of age. It is a wonderful therapy for anyone wishing to relieve pain and tension and to increase flexibility and well being.

Thai Yoga massage eases the aches and pains of everday living.

BENEFITS: Relieves Pain; Releases Stress & Tension; Soothes Tired, aching muscles; Increases Blood & Lymph flow; Promotes Deep Relaxation; Boost the Immune System; Increases flexibility and joint range of motion; Improves posture; Enhances energy flow through the body. Brings the systems of the body into Balance, so that healing can take place.

POLARITY:

Polarity is a soothing holistic method of aligning the body's energy fields. Polarity as bodywork, consists of a series of gentle holds, calming rocking motions, and simple manipulations. The goal being to clear and align the physical structure, energy fields and thought process. By achieving this, the client receives the feelings of wholeness, clarity and boosted energy levels.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY:

Craniosacral Therapy is a deeply relaxing, light touch treatment, performed with the client fully clothed, for correcting distortions in the structure and function of the brain and spinal cord, the bones of the skull, the sacrum, and the interconnected membranes.

Our skull and our sacrum (tailbone) are physically linked by the spinal cord and its coverings. Headaches can actually come from problems in the pelvis, just as hip pain may be caused by restrictions in the skull. Though we often think of the parts of our body as disconnected, the body is all of one piece. Craniosacral Therapy works to restore our wholeness, our unity, and thereby, our health.

Craniosacral Therapy evolved from the pioneering work of American Osteopath William Sutherland in the early 1900's. Dr. Sutherland discovered intrinsic movements of the bones of the skull. His further research revealed that like the pulse of the heart in the Cardiac system and the breath of the Respiratory system, there is a rhythm to the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (the fluid that cushions and nourishes the brain) throughout the brain and up and down the spinal cord canal. When this rhythm is disturbed, it is a sign that the body has entered a state of disease.

Craniosacral Therapists use their hands to tune in to the body's Craniosacral rhythm to facilitate changes in areas that have become restricted through illness of trauma.

Craniosacral Therapy has developed from clinical practice, which shows that health is something active and not just the absence of disease: it is the expression of life, responsible for the organization of the millions of things that are constantly happening within the human body.

CST supports health in the body, helping to increase physical vitality and emotional well-being.

VISCERAL MANIPULATION:

Thoracic and Abdominal Organs are all surrounded, invested, supported and held in place by connective tissue. After an accident, illness, or surgery, they may become held too much in place, and not be free to carry out their intended functions. Additionally, skeletal joints are often affected by visceral restrictions. For example: A fixation of the bladder against the inner hip during pregnancy is a common cause of hip pain, and the eventual wearing out of joint surfaces, often ending in hip replacement surgery decades later.

One way to think of this that is often illumination for people, is to remember that when a person has a heart attack, they often have pain down their left arm, or even in their neck. These organ pain referral patterns are useful in pin pointing organ dysfunction.

Visceral Manipulation was developed by French Osteopath, Jean-Pierre Barral. It is gentle and non-invasive, done from the surface of the body with a "listening touch". Light hand pressure flows into the lines of tension, not against them, until the adhesion or spasm is located and then gently released. As always, the more the work is needed, the more intense the sensation will be, but also the greater the relief...
